Christmas is funny, isn’t it?

It’s the one time of year that can either feel overwhelming… or wrap around your heart like a warm cup of hot cocoa. It’s the season of messy kitchens, endless lists, blood boiling car park hunting, late night wrapping sessions and wondering if you remembered everyone on your shopping list. Yet somehow, hidden amongst the chaos, Christmas asks us to do something beautiful. To pause. To reflect. To be grateful. To stop looking at the world through tired grown-up eyes and start seeing it through the eyes of children again.

Christmas has a way of reminding us what matters most, it's the time of year when the everyday worries get popped in the cupboard for a little while. Instead, we lean into the craziness of family, friends, laughter and togetherness. We hold onto the little moments like the excitement of putting the star on the Christmas tree, the first time you spot a house decked out in fairy lights, the Christmas carols.... the endlesssss Christmas carols, the gift shopping, the wrapping, the giving.

The magic.

For so long, Christmas has been painted with snowy rooftops, white Christmases and crackling fireplaces. It’s what we see in movies, online and across social media all year round. But here in Australia? Christmas looks a little different. It’s hot and then it rains, we swim from 6am until 10pm all December long, we eat cold ham and prawns between sweating up a storm in the kitchen trying to make sure Christmas Eve and Christmas Day somehow still include a roast meat and veggies.... don't forget the gravy! We’re awake by 5am because the kids are already awake as the sun has gently reminded them through the curtains that it's Christmas morning and the excitement takes over. While it may not look like the Christmases we grew up seeing on screens… the feeling is no different.
